In this violin course we will start at the very beginning and I’ll show you foundations of violin playing to get you playing great songs as soon as possible!

Try to follow the course from the beginning and give each lesson your best. I tried to add valuable information to each lesson, so even if you can play the violin a little bit already, I am sure there is something new to learn in each lesson.

Stage 1: Mastering the bow hold

Let’s learn how to hold the bow!
Right now it is time to check if you are making one of the mistakes I discuss in this video. These are the most common mistakes I see my students making.
Before we start playing on our violin, we will first master to hold the bow correctly. In this lesson we will discuss a bow exercise that will help you to get wrist flexibility in the bow hand. Try to do this bow exercise every day of this beginners course.

Let’s do a small spider race exercise! This exercise will help you to finger flexibility in the bow hand. Try to do this bow exercise every day of this beginners course.

Stage 2: Learn to play on open strings

It’s time to learn to hold the violin. Learn how to hold the violin with this video.
To get more insight about what parts of the bow you are using, I am showing you how you can tape your bow. I will be referring to the tapes during the next lessons of this course.
Jay! We finally came to the lesson where you will learn to play your first song on the violin.
In this lesson you will learn your first song on two strings!
In this video I explain the most common mistakes my students make when playing the song you learned in lesson 9.

Stage 3: Learn to play with fingers on 1 string

Today, we will be putting finger tapes on our violin. This will help you to get a visual impression of where the notes are. (And thus, where you should place your fingers.)
Learn how to place your left hand on the violin.
This is the first day we will make use of our fingers. Learn to play this little scale with 3 fingers on one string.

During the last lesson, you might have noticed that you hear scratching and squeaking when playing the song. Here are some tips that will help you avoid scratching and squeaking.

Stage 4: Learn to play with fingers on 2 strings

Learn how to play the A major scale. Play with 3 fingers on TWO strings for the first time!
Challenge yourself and learn to add a rhythm to your A major scale.
Do you notice that your fingers are not moving as fast as you want them to? This exercise will help you to develop 3th finger speed. This exercise will help you to prepare for the song Twinkle, twinkle little star that you will learn in lesson 19.
Learn how to play Twinkle, twinkle little star on the violin.
You made it to the last lesson! In the last lesson of this course, you will learn to learn Row, row row your boat.
